Accessing the Retention Center

The Retention Center allows instructors to monitor student progress and to be alerted to students who are at risk, allowing instructors to notify students at risk of falling behind and take corrective action.

Accessing the Retention Center

Log into your Blackboard course, and locate the Control Panel:

  1. Click on Evaluation.
  2. Select Retention Center.

Viewing the Retention Center

By default, the retention center shows students who are at risk:1.Customize: Click the Customize button to edit retention center rules.  Please refer to the guide on Creating Retention Center Rules for more details:2.Students currently at risk: Hover over the bar below this heading to see the total number of students at risk.  Click on this bar to view a summary of students who meet different risk categories.3.The list of students who are at risk will appear here.  In addition, a red dot indicates which alerts apply to each student.4.To view details related to a student, click on the student name.5.Your Course Activity: A summary of all instructor activities and items needing attention appear here.6.Students you are monitoring: A list of students you have selected to monitor their progress will appear here:7.Other information you are monitoring: A list of students, whom the instructor has selected to monitor, who are doing well in the course will appear here.8.View students not at risk: Click this link to display students who are doing well in the course.

  4. To view details related to a student, click on the student name.
  5. Your Course Activity: A summary of all instructor activities and items needing attention appear here.

  7. Other information you are monitoring: A list of students, whom the instructor has selected to monitor, who are doing well in the course will appear here.
  8. View students not at risk: Click this link to display students who are doing well in the course.

 

Monitoring a Student

After clicking on the name of an at-risk student, you will see the student's name and information on a screen labeled Retention Status:

  1. Monitor: Click the Monitor button to monitor the student on the main retention center page.
  2. Notify: Hover over the Notify button to send a notification out to the student, observers, or the student and observers.
  3. Risk Factors: Details related to the student's performance will appear here, as well as how the student's performance compares to the rest of the course. To see additional rules, click the Show all Rules link to view additional rules.
  4. Notification History: A list of all communication to the student from within the Retention Center will appear here.
