Overview - Two Types of Rubrics

There are two types of rubrics in the Blackboard Learn Environment: Course Rubrics and Outcomes Assessment Rubrics.

  • Course rubrics are created by the instructor in a Learn course and typically are used to assess the artifacts for the purposes of the course objectives and goals related to the assignment. These rubrics generally focus on content objectives and other learning objectives for the assignment .
  • Outcomes System assessment rubrics are created by the program, department or institution assessment teams to externally evaluate the level of achievement of program, department or institution-level goals. These rubrics are typically designed to focus on broad goals and not on individual student evaluation. Students’ work is then collected from the course embedded assignment, aligned to goal, and sampled for assigning to an external evaluator to assess using an Outcomes System rubric.
