Restricting Downloads on OneDrive Files

This guide will demonstrate how to restrict downloads on files uploaded to OneDrive. This option requires the file to be set to read only.

Sharing a File in OneDrive

Hover over the file in your OneDrive you wish to set as read only and click the Share button (icon with arrow).

Modifying File Sharing Settings

You will now see the Share file dialog box on screen. To modify sharing permissions, click on the cog icon to the right of the file name at the top.

You will now see the Sharing Settings dialog box on screen.

  1. Under Share the link with select People in University of Toledo
  2. Under More Settings, click on Can Edit and change to Can View
  3. Click on the slider to block downloads.
  4. When finished, click the Apply button

Sharing a Read Only File

You will now be returned to the previous Share dialog box. Towards the bottom you will see the following message:

People in your organization with the download link can view but can't download.

Click the  Copy Link button to copy the link to the file to your clipboard. You can then paste the link as a Web Link in your Blackboard course.
