Blackboard Time Zone

Updated on

This article will cover the local and time zones for Blackboard.

A locale refers to a collection of standards and rules that dictate how data is formatted for display and how user input is understood. This includes formats for dates and times, numbers, names, sorting methods, currency symbols, vocabulary, and grammar.

Every locale is identified by a specific code, which is structured as  two lowercase letters representing the language followed by two  uppercase letters representing the region. For instance, "en_US"  signifies English as the language and the United States as the region.  This code is the default locale for Blackboard Learn.

The time zone is automatically determined using data from your internet browser. For course-related items like due dates and calendar events, the time zone adjusts to match the time zones of the users. For example, if an instructor sets a due date for 11:00 PM Eastern time, a student in the Pacific time zone will see the due date as 8:00 PM.
