Getting Started in StudyMate

Updated on

StudyMate opens to an optional welcome and introduction video at launch. You can watch this video or click to continue to StudyMate. There is also an option you can click labeled "Do not show this page again" to launch StudyMate directly in the future.

You'll also notice that once opened, StudyMate takes the whole the window and you can no longer see your course menu. To exit StudyMate and return to your course and course menu at any time, click the home icon that appears at the top of your screen.

This guide will review all four menu items in the About StudyMate screen, including Downloading and Setting Up the StudyMate Mobile App.

The next option in the top menu of the opening screen offers a brief explanation of how StudyMate works, along with some sample games and exercises.

The third top menu item offers video tutorials on various functions and advanced uses of StudyMate. This guide will also review these features and functions.

Downloading and Setting Up the StudyMate Mobile App

The final top menu item includes instructions for downloading the mobile app, available to both instructors and students. Click on the install instructions link and follow the steps listed in the window.

Be sure to download the correct mobile app version of StudyMate. The version compatible with StudyMate Campus is called StudyMate and may be further down the list in a search on the app store (be sure to search StudyMate as all one word). The old version called StudyMate LMS Version is only compatible with older versions of StudyMate. You'll know if you have the right version if it prompts you to enter your code when you open it the first time. If it prompts you to enter your institution instead, it is the wrong version.

Now that you have reviewed the StudyMate landing page, you can click Continue to StudyMate to begin creating study projects.

StudyMate opens to the main projects page. Any projects made available to all students in the course are listed at the top. Projects created by the user are listed under My StudyMate Projects. These projects can be created by instructors and students alike. They are not available to anyone else in the course unless you set them to, using the drop down menu next to the project, as seen below and reviewed in the article Making Content Available and Viewing Usage Statistics in StudyMate. If you create study projects as an instructor, you will likely make them available to all students, however, students are also able to create their own projects with an option to share with others or keep it private for their own study purposes.

As mentioned, the tutorial videos are available any time you need to refer back to them by clicking the About StudyMate link at the top of the StudyMate window.
