Below are some basic guidelines for building accessible web content:

  • Use heading structures and formatting in creating Word and PDF documents
  • Avoid using scanned documents
  • Tables should be used for data, and not page layouts, and tables should have a defined header row.
  • Use text with sufficient color contrast with the background colors.
  • Add alternative text descriptions to images.
  • Add captions to audiovisual materials
  • Use prebuilt PowerPoint layouts and check slide reading order.
  • Ensure PDF documents are tagged, and the document language is set.
  • Avoid overly complex images or diagrams.
  • Provide descriptive text for hyperlinks and check for dead links.
