Accessing Courses in Blackboard Learn Ultra Course View

This guide will demonstrate how to access course within the Learn Ultra environment.

The Courses menu item on the left provides access to all courses. Instructors will be able to switch between list or grid view, mark courses as favorites, hide courses and more. Instructors can search for courses or use the filter options to view courses by term or by role (e.g. courses taught as an instructor or taken as a student).

This information is for Blackboard Ultra Course View, go to Original Course View.

Navigating Courses

  1. Click on the Courses tab in the menu on the left to open the Course List. The default view will show Current Courses (Courses that are currently open)
  2. Courses can be viewed in list view or grid view. By default, the courses are shown in list view.
  3. Search: Use the Search field to search courses
  4. Terms: Use the Terms dropdown menu to select Current Courses (courses that are currently active, All Courses, or to select a specific term to view.
  5. Filters: Use the Filters dropdown menu to filter courses based on your course role (e.g. instructor, student, TA)
  6. Items per page: Use the dropdown menu to change the number of courses displayed on one page
  7. Course information: Information about a course will appear in the center. Users can view the course name, course ID, and course instructors. Users can click on the course name to open the course.
  8. Favorite course: Click on the star icon to the right to add the selected course to your favorites. Favorited courses will appear at the top when the term filter is set to All Courses or Current Courses
  9. Additional Options: Clicking on the three dots will provide the option to hide the course or make the course private.

Change Course View from List to Grid

Instructors can choose how to view courses in list view or grid view.

Select the option that appears as 4 boxes to switch to grid view.

Changing Course Image

  1. To change the image, hover over the course and select the 3 dots that appears.
  2. Select Edit course image.

Image must be at least 1200 x 240 pixels, Images with text don't scale well.

The image will display as the course card thumbnail on the Courses page. Students will also see the same image.

Favoriting a Course

To favorite a course, click on the star icon in the lower left corner of the course card.

Favorited courses will appear at the top of the list in the Current Courses and All Terms views. To remove a course from favorites, click on the star icon.

Hide a Course

Hiding a course removes it from your view in Blackboard. This is useful when you have a merged course site and want to hide the multiple child course sites.

Hover over the course and select the 3 dots that appear and select Hide course. Instructors will not see that course in the course list.

To find the hidden course, select Hidden from me in the Filters dropdown menu.

  1. Hover over the course and click on the three dots that appear.
  2. Select Show course to unhide the course.

To go back to your course list, go to the filter drop down and select All courses.

Hiding a course only hides it from your view in Blackboard. It is not the same as closing the course to prevent student access.

Courses Marked as Private

Courses will show a lock and indicate private when the course availability has not started or has ended. Upcoming Courses are marked as private until the first day of class. Previous courses are marked as private 2 weeks after the course has ended. To have a course opened or marked as private, please contact UToledo Online Help Desk.
