Auto Generating an Assignment

This guide will demonstrate how to use the Auto Generate tool in Learn Ultra to create an assignment.

Creating an Assignment, Part 1

Identify the place within your course content you wish to place the assignment and click the + button on the line between two lines.

A menu will open on the right side of the screen. Under the Assignments section, select the Assignment option.

Auto Generating an Assignment

A new window will open with the assignment details. To automatically generate an assignment, click on the Auto Generate button in the upper right hand corner, as shown in the image above.

You will now see a screen similar to the one above. Blackboard will generate three different prompts, and instructors can select one prompt to use for the assignment. Instructors will enter the auto generation criteria under the left column labeled Define the Assignment:

  1. Description: Enter a description or a set of keywords to use for assignment generation.
  2. Select Course Items: Use this option to generate an assignment based on the course items you have selected.
  3. Desired cognitive level: Select which cognitive level you wish to use for assignment creation (Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, Create), or choose Inspire me to randomize the generated items.
  4. Complexity: Use the slider to adjust the complexity of the generated assignment prompts.
  5. Generate Assignment Title: Check this checkbox to automatically generate the assignment title.
  6. Click the Generate button to generate assignment prompts based on the selected criteria.
  7. Three automatically generated prompts will appear on the right. Use the radio button to select which prompt you wish to add.
  8. Click the Add button to add the selected prompt.

Finishing Up

The selected assignment prompt will now appear on screen. You can then click the pencil icon in the upper right hand corner to edit the assignment content, or click the X button in the upper left corner to close out of the assignment.
