Blackboard Ultra Course View (UCV) *Quick Start Guide*

Updated on

This quick reference guide is a resource that covers the most applicable functions of various tools available to help you get started with Blackboard Ultra Course View (UCV).

As of the Summer 2025 semester, all Blackboard courses at UToledo are now in the Ultra Course View (UCV) format.

What this means for your courses:

  • Course shells are now exclusively in UCV. Faculty will not have the option to teach in Original as of Summer 2025.
  • Instructors can copy content from Blackboard Original into Ultra Course View for a smooth transition.
  • Past courses in Blackboard Original will remain accessible; Blackboard courses are retained for 4 years and 1 semester.

UCV Getting Started

Navigating Ultra Courses as an Instructor is a little different than Original, but it is a much nore intuitive and easy to navigate interface for both students and faculty. Most content from Original will copy into your Ultra course, but there are some outdated features that are no longer supported and will not convert. You can preview and plan ahead using the Preconversion Checklist, our list of Original vs. Ultra features and our Ultra FAQs.

On the Course Content page, instructors can navigate Ultra Course by selecting each tab to access course content,  check the course calendar, drop in on class discussions, and access grades.

Third Party Tools

If you use any of the plug-in tools (Echo360, Teams, or Collab) or publisher content, they link a little differently in Ultra than they did in Original. Here are quick links to guides to help you get started using those tools in Ultra:

The Details & Actions panel in Ultra cannot be customized. All custom content is created in the Content tab and window.
