This article will cover grading test essay questions and providing feedback.
When grading essay questions in Blackboard tests, instructors have two options for giving feedback:
- Question-Level Feedback
- You can provide individual feedback directly on each essay question.
- Important: Students will only see this feedback if they return to the test and view their submission.
- Overall Test Feedback
- There is also a text box for entering overall feedback on the test as a whole.
- When this option is used, students will see a purple feedback indicator in their Gradebook, even before opening their test submission.
Best Practice Recommendation:
To ensure students are aware that feedback has been provided, include at least some comments in the overall feedback box. This way, students are notified through the Gradebook indicator and are more likely to engage with the feedback. Instructors can still use the question-level feedback for detailed comments, but the overall feedback ensures visibility.
1. In the Gradebooks Overview tab will indicate Needs grading.
2. Select the link to grade now.
For each essay question, use the comment box / conversation bubble next to the question to type in individual feedback to each question.
In the same grading panel, Instructors can leave Overall Feedback for the entire test.
