Logging into Microsoft for Education Troubleshoot and Workaround

This article will cover common causes and recommendations when using Microsoft for Education integration with Blackboard, some users may occasionally encounter an error that the Microsoft content could not load and try again.

Reasons for this error could be because Microsoft rely on a single sign on and users may have multiple Microsoft accounts signed in at once, expired login sessions, or restrictive browsers that can interrupt connections. Microsoft uses MFA to sign on and typically can expire and prompts a time out indicating the need to sign back in.

Log out of all Browser Based sign on for Microsoft and Blackboard

  1. Log out of Microsoft by going to office365.utoledo.edu
  2. Top right where the photo or initials are, drop down to sign out
  3. Log out of Blackboard by going to the bottom left to Sign Out
  4. Close browser entirely
  5. Sign back in to Blackboard and relaunch the Open Microsoft link

Having Multiple Microsoft Accounts

It may be common to have a personal or other institutional Microsoft accounts.

  • Use private/incognito window to log into Blackboard
  • Log out of all Microsoft accounts before accessing Blackboard
  • Use a dedicated browser for Blackboard to sign into Microsoft

Workaround to Joining a Teams Meeting

By default when a Teams Meeting is set up by the instructor using Microsoft for Education in Blackboard, the meeting will appear on instructor and students Outlook and Teams calendars.

  • Workaround: Open Outlook or Teams and use the Join feature to join the meeting.
