This article will cover exporting course Gradebook data to a spreadsheet file (.xls or .csv) and how to import grade data from spreadsheets.
Accessing Gradebook Settings
To download Gradebook data:
- Log into your course and click on the Gradebook tab
- Click on the cog icon to open the Settings menu.
Downloading Grade Data
The Gradebook Settings menu will open on the right. Locate the Upload and download gradebook heading and select the Download Grades link below.
1. Download Options
- Full Gradebook for a backup of grades, offline grading.
- Grade History for tracking grading adjustments.
- Include Hidden Items toggle on if instructors have grades hidden from students but still need them in the spread sheet.
2. Record Details
- Check Select All to export everything.
- Manually select only needed columns.
- Feedback Options toggle on for instructor comments and inline grading.
3. File Type
- Tab-separated file (.xls) recommended for large gradebooks.
- Comma-separated (.csv) recommended for uploading into other systems.
4. Save Location use My Device to save locally to the computer or to Blackboard Content Collection.
5. Select Download.
Uploading Grade Data
To upload grades from a spreadsheet, click on Upload Gradebook under the Upload and download gradebook heading.
On the next screen, drag the file you wish to upload (.csv or .txt files only) into the rectangle or click Upload Local File to browse files.
Once you have selected a file, a summary of columns to be updated will appear on screen, as well as any errors or compatibility issues. When you are ready, click Upload to upload the spreadsheet file and update the grade data.
