Adding an exemption or exception in UCV

Updated on

This article will demonstrate how to add an exemption (excluding the grade from total) or exception (extended due date and/or availability window and/or addtional attempt) for a single student's graded item in Ultra Course View.

You are viewing Ultra Course View content.Go to Original Course View page.

Selecting a gradable item for exemption or exception for a single student

1. Click on the Gradebook tab.

2. Select the Gradebook view of Grades for a full view of students and gradable items.

3. Locate the box that corresponds with the student grade and gradable item you wish to enter an exception or exemption and click it once.

4. Select to add or edit an exemption or exception.

Exceptions

Adding an exception allows you to extend a due date, enter an alternate time window for access, and/or provide an additional attempt for a graded assessment. This is useful for students who miss a test window or need a second attempt on a test or assignment.

1. Enter the extended due date/time for that student's assessment.

2. Check the box(es) to enter a new time window for the student to be able to view and open the item. (Optional).

*Note: if you enter a Hide after date that is the same as the due date, the time would need be at least one minute later. (e.g. if your due date was 9/27/24 at 10:00 am, Hide after would have to be 9/27/24 at 10:01 am or later.

3. If you are allowing an additional attempt, use the drop down arrow to adjust number of attempts.

4. Click save.

You may select all 3 options, or only use the one needed for that particular item.

Your allowances will only apply to the student and the assessment selected. If you need to provide a due date exception for all assessments for a student with academic accommodations, see the guide for Adding an Accommodation. This is also where you can add extra time accommodations for timed tests.

Exemptions

Entering an exemption means you are exempting that student's grade on that particular assessment from counting toward their final grade.

1. Check the box to exempt grade.

2. Click save

This is for a single student and single assignment. If you wish to set up a grading rule that drops the lowest score from a category for the entire class (such as dropping the lowest quiz score), please see the guide for creating a grade calculation rule.
