About Tests and Assignments

In Blackboard Learn Ultra, assignment and test creation has been combined into a single tool, even though there are separate listings for Tests and Assignments in the Create menu. The functionality of an assessment in Learn Ultra is based on how it is built within the course.

Creating an Assignment

By default, an assignment or test allows for users to submit comments or files. An assignment allows instructors to determine total points for an assignment and instructors can attach a rubric for grading.

Creating a Test

An assessment can be designed as a test by adding questions to the assessment canvas. Blackboard Learn Ultra permits instructors to create the following question types:

  • Calculated numeric
  • Calculated Formula
  • Hotspot
  • Matching
  • Multiple Choice
  • Fill in the Black
  • True/False
  • Essay

In addition, users can also add question pools, text blocks, and files. However, the addition of text or file elements do not allow for the randomization of test questions.

Once questions have been created instructors can assign points for each item. Once points are assigned, instructors can choose to enable or disable document submission on the assignment page. Instructors can choose to allow different point values for different items, but instructors cannot specify an overall score for assessments with questions. In this case, the overall score is automatically calculated based on the total of all questions and cannot be changed.

Information Regarding Surveys

Surveys are no longer an assessment choice in Learn Ultra. If you would like to use surveys, you do have a few options:

  1. Create a Test, and enable Anonymous Grading if  you do not wish to be able to identify students.
  2. Use an external survey tool or form creation tool.
